The Ceiling and the Floor
Essential Machine is an indie rock band from Pittsburgh, PA.
The band has opened for national touring acts Kopecky, Justin Townes Earle, American Aquarium and Matrimony. 91.3 WYEP named Essential Machine one of the top five bands of 2014. Their latest EP The Ceiling and the Floor is due out spring 2015.
Originally from the swamps of Florida and falling in and out of rock bands, RJ Dietrich rediscovered his passion for harmony after meeting his wife Karen, a Pennsylvania native with a knack for percussion. This serendipitous coupling led them on a journey back to Karen’s homeland where they have since honed a unique blend of boy/girl harmonies and grown into their current lineup including RobyJ and fellow friend and musician Matthew Kilroy.
RJ’s background in audio production evolved from 4-track recordings in his childhood bedroom to engineering and producing the band’s three EPs in his project studio: Find the Harmony, Lonely Telephone, and Underneath the Earth.
