Smellucinations Vol. 1 was recorded over several months in 2013 at Talking Tree Ranch in the Gold Country of California's Sierra Nevada Mountains. The album is the first new work to be created by DOGON since 1998's "The Sirius Expeditions." In some ways the work picks up where the duo left off at the turn of the millennium with Ethno-Ambient rhythmic tracks such as the opener "Oud Goud" or the darkly ambient "Touching Fabric." But with a deeply emotive lyrical intention, the duo explore new territory in pieces such as "The River, parts 1 & 2" or "The Triggering Town 1/2" including vocals from North American member, Paul Godwin. Lovers of Dogon's expansive, heart music will appreciate "One Day After the Moon" or the dubbily uplifiting "Cloudy With a Chance of." This is a solid addition to the group's catalog and a foundational building block which is released after but recorded before 2015's "All My Relations (at peace)".
