Done Told the Truth, Goodbye!: Traditional American Folk Tales

Sparky and Rhonda Rucker are musicians, storytellers, and historians from the American folk tradition. This is a collection of traditional tales, including some from slave times and one old “preacher tale” in which Sparky weaves fact and fiction as he tells a story about his grandfather, who was a bishop in the church. There are several Br’er Rabbit tales, including two that Sparky and Rhonda tell together. The stories are accompanied by their bottleneck blues and banjo music in the background. They also include one song on the CD, “Long John,” in which they sing and play spoons and bones.

"Warm, wonderful stories performed by two of Tennessee's most gifted storytellers. These are the stories you wish had been told by your parents and grandparents."
Sam Venable,
Knoxville News-Sentinel columnist

“What a delight! The tales in this CD are truly a pleasure to listen to, whether you are adult or child. Children will enjoy the hilarious antics of Br’er Rabbit and Br’er Gator along with Br’er Coon and the frogs. ‘Big Sixteen,’ ‘Long John,’ and ‘Elder Rucker and the Ghosts’ will capture the imagination of older children and teens. These are the stories that should end up in the literature books for high schoolers. For all their sociological importance, these stories and songs are just great listening!”
