Seis Cuerdas y Madera (Six Strings & Some Wood) [feat. The Roland Ruby Band]

The voice of Neuro, NYC’s neo-prog-goth-rock band, here does an ABOUT, FACE! mucially, that is. Roland Ruby’s World Music Latin pop gem, “Seis Cuerdas y Madera”, is a love song you can dance to, or sing to, in Spanish. Neuro’s voice & front-man, Jesse Short, trades in his dark goth-rock garb and black eyeliner for love-lorn Latin Casual in Spanish acoustic hues. For Neuro, this song veers so far-off-brand, it’s on-brand.

It's the antithesis of their "cosmic goth rock. . . psych-rock freakouts", although Jesse Short retains, in Spanish, his dramatic and theatrical style, but adds some low-register crooning you won't hear on Neuro's debut album, "Mind Altar".

Is this a harbinger of Neuro's new musical direction?

"What musical direction?" Jesse asks. "This track won't be on our next album; it wouldn't fit in. I think it, Seis Cuerdas (Six Strings) is a beautifully written song, a Latin classic is what it sounds like. I grew up listening to a lot of Latin American music. I spent half my childhood in Nicaragua; Spanish is really my first language, notwithstanding the top secret Alien language from my Roswellian ancestry, which is more telephathic by nature and that won't go over well with microphones. Did I just say that? NO: I did NOT. Ha-ha; I love science facts. I mean fiction. . . "

So you didn't hear it from Neuro; this is really Jesse and Roland, and the Roland Ruby band. An effort dubbed by NeuRolando, if you will.

"Roland is an amazing songwriter, and I'm living in Miami back & forth from NYC right now, and I'm honored Roland let me render this . . . (he's in NYC, no-no, I recorded it in Connecticutt actually, Neuro's producer, Steve Hansen. Yes.). I can't seem to write a pop song to save my life! Neuro's next album will feature many more Keith-penned songs, and a more electronic feel. But I do love singing in Spanish! Maybe I should try writing a song, in Spanish. Not goth; gosh-no!"

And there you go. NeuRolando.
